A Herd of Cats Fill Advertising Placements at a London Tube Stop for Two Weeks

The Clapham Common Tube station in London is currently covered in cats, and for the most part it’s just as straightforward as it may seem. A project known as the Citizens Advertising Takeover Service (or CATS), took over 68 advertisements in the station as a way to bring cute imagery into the daily vision of passersby, while momentarily ceasing the onslaught of continuous advertising faced during daily commutes, and life. CATS secured the money to finance the project through a Kickstarter campaign six months ago, and in the end raised £23,000.

Started by Glimpse, CATS is the first project by the collective who hopes to bring about social change via creative campaigns. Many of the cats Glimpse photographed for the 68 advertisements are stray cats from two rescue charities, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, and Cats Protection. So you want to be a Spice Girl? BBC Show coming soon!

Twenty years after they first conquered the charts, the Spice Girls are recruiting a new member – using a BBC talent show!

Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel B have recently reformed the group, but without Victoria Beckham or Mel C, newly named GEM.

Mel B, currently a judge on America’s Got Talent, has already spoken of her wish ‘to invite other people to sing with us’.

So the three girls – nicknamed Ginger, Baby and Scary during their heyday – have approached the BBC with an idea for a talent show, in which they would act as judges for the wannabes.

The Spice Girls talent hunt will involve auditions and heats over five consecutive nights next April, culminating in a live final on BBC1.

The winner will join the band for a gig in Hyde Park next July to mark the 21st anniversary of their first No 1 single, Wannabe.

Mail on Sunday columnist Piers Morgan, a former Britain’s Got Talent judge, said: ‘The Spice Girls weren’t great singers but they had great chutzpah and attitude.

‘Confidence, cheek and a good look will carry a candidate far more than a decent voice or dance ability. You’ve got to be able to get out there and strut your stuff in full Girl Power mode.

‘As the Spice Girls themselves said, if you have the attitude you can be whatever you wannabe.’ Sporty Spice Melanie Chisholm has said she didn’t want to rejoin the group after they reached a ‘peak’ by reuniting for an appearance at the 2012 London Olympics.

‘There’s a lot to be said for bowing out on a high,’ she said, adding: ‘Anything less than the full line-up just didn’t feel like we’d be doing justice to the band or the fans.’

Posh Spice Victoria Beckham has also declined to be part of any comeback as she pursues a career as a fashion designer.

The audition process will mirror how the Spice Girls themselves were originally selected.

Responding to an advert in Stage magazine in 1993, Mel B, Victoria and Melanie C passed an audition held in London’s Oxford Street.

Geri – now Geri Horner – missed the initial audition but talked her way into the band. Emma was recruited later when one of the original members dropped out.

Their debut album Spice sold more than 31 million copies, becoming the best-selling album by a female group in history. The group broke up in 2000 but reunited for a 2007 tour, and then for the closing ceremony at the 2012 London Games.

A BBC spokesman said: ‘BBC Entertainment has lots of ideas in development but we never comment on details.’

Christine McConnell X Tim Burton

I have loved following Christine McConnell over the last few years and seeing all her creepy awesome cakes and baked goods she’s been making. A really inspiration! Like many others, I have always compared her to Tim Burton (my idol of creativity!) So how amazing is it that 1. She has replicated the house from his latest film.. and 2. That she got to meet him because of it! (I met him in LA and was literally star struck when I shook his hand :O)

Christine McConnell created a gingerbread house replica of the one in Tim Burton’s “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.”

This gingerbread house is so good, it’s scary.

She baked a 2-foot-tall copy of the gothic mansion featured in Tim Burton’s “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” which was presented at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere on Thursday.

“This is my Mona Lisa of baking,” said Christine McConnell, 35, who spent 10 full, 15-hour days making the gingerbread, crafting sugar glass and whipping royal icing for the edible edifice.

She dished to the Daily News that she’s been a huge Burton fan ever since she saw “Edward Scissorhands” as a 7-year-old, and he’s been the inspiration behind her creepy photography and baking projects. McConnell made headlines last year for decorating her parents’ house to look like a monster for Halloween.

“He’s the original creator of this campy creepiness mixed with beauty,” she said. “Everything he makes, I just eat it up.”

So it was dream (or a “Nightmare Before Christmas”) come true when 20th Century Fox asked her to think up some creative confections to promote the director’s latest film.

She transformed the haunted house at the center of the story into a mouthwatering masterpiece by studying pictures of the Belgian mansion used for filming. She built a cardboard model first, and used the pieces as stencils for her gingerbread dough.

“I baked somewhere around 12 batches of gingerbread cookies,” she said. “They’re really thin and spicy, and they’re so good that I accidentally ate a few critical pieces while I was putting it together that I had to rebake.”

Piecing the porch together out of spun sugar glass was her greatest challenge, and resulted in a burn down her leg when she splashed herself with the molten sugar mixture. She finished the house off by painting details on the front with homemade icing.

“I’m telling you, he couldn’t have picked a more complicated house,” she said. “I can’t believe it came out so well.”

She only spent about $150 on ingredients and supplies for the 22-inch gingerbread house, including a wooden board from Home Depot to serve as the base. “That stand is the only thing you can’t eat; everything else is 100% food,” she said. Although McConnell said she “might cry” if anyone actually took a bite of her pièce de résistance.

But the icing on the cake is that she actually got to meet her idol on Thursday. “This is the coolest thing, easily, that has ever happened to me,” she said.

I know that feeling too 😛

Underworld 5 is happening..

In this day and age, where studios view every film as a potential franchise starter, it shouldn’t surprise anyone when we hear about an unexpected sequel. Underworld 5, also known as Underworld: Next Generation, is indeed happening, and it will once again feature the true face of the franchise, Kate Beckinsale.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beckinsale is set to reprise her role as the badass vampire Selene, who has appeared as the protagonist in three of the previous four installments. She sat out 2009’s Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. At this point in the franchise, she has a daughter with her lycan/vampire hybrid hubby Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), though at the end of the last film, Underworld: Awakening, he is nowhere to be found, which will probably come into play at some point.

Right now there aren’t a ton of details regarding Underworld 5, as they’re being kept under tight lock and key. The few tidbits we do know, however, indicate that the plot sees the never-ending war between vampires and lycans continue as new generations on both sides take up the conflict. Makes sense that it would be called Next Generation. Theo James has a small role in Awakening as a young vampire named David, and is set to reprise his role in the new film, so perhaps he could be part of the driving force behind this reignited feud. He does sustain a serious injury and see much of his coven slaughtered, which sounds like the makings of one pissed off fanatic vampire warrior to me.

Anna Foerster has been tapped to direct Underworld 5. All of her directorial efforts up to this point have been in TV, on shows like Outlander and Criminal Minds, but she has a ton of experience behind the camera as a director of photography, second unit director, and assistant director. She’s worked a great deal with the master of disaster Roland Emmerich, lensing movies like White House Down and Anonymous, as well as contributing footage to The Day After Tomorrow and 10,000 BC. So she’s certainly no stranger to working on big movies, and though the franchise has primarily featured a female protagonist, this marks the first time that a woman has been hired to direct an installment of the action-centric vampire series.

Underworld 5 is scheduled to film in Prague starting in October, and you have to assume that Prague in the fall is an ideal place to shoot a movie about ancient sects of vampires and werewolves battling each other.
